Coming Home BBC1 Wales

Coming Home is a TV series made by Yellow Duck Media for BBC Wales. Coming Home is a family history series that invites celebrities to trace their often hidden Welsh heritage.

My role was as DoP, lighting for 2 and 3 cameras, and responsible for camera operation using Sony PMW500′s. I have filmed many of these series. With Shakin Steven, John Humphreys, Jeremy Bowen and Alex Jones to name a few.

Laurence’s Extraordinary Ordinary Houses BBC1

Master of design Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen unlocks the untold story of every day homes to create a unique room renovation. His mission: to show property owners how to resolve modern-day design dilemmas whilst respecting their bricks and mortar’s past. This evening’s episode sees Laurence rolling up his sleeves to uncover the rich seam of social and architectural history that lies behind a Deganwy detached des res.

My role was as a shooting PD, filming the renovation of the rooms with the building team, producing storylines, and filming and directing Laurence.IMG_1381IMG_1377IMG_1380

Curry Wars BBC Wales

Curry Wars

Series following the hottest competition in Wales. It’s the race for the crown every curry house in the nation wants to win – Welsh Curry House of the Year.

My job as a shooting PD, I filmed produced and directed most of episode 1 and some of episode 2. Mostly observational style filming shot with my Canon C300 on lightweight support with a 17-55 2.8 lens (perfect for obs, a nice small rig great getting close to the contributors without putting them under pressure). My time filming was in very busy kitchens, and front of house, following and producing story lines. Tx was September 2015.

24 hours to go Broke / Renegade

I’m back from Cork/Ireland. Just finished filming a mad capped adventure called ’24 hours to go broke’ made by indie Renegade Pictures, for channel Dave. Two celebrities get to blow £10000 in 24 hours with nothing to show at the end, if they don’t succeed, they get to do a ridiculous forfeit.
Filming using my Canon C300 using a lightweight handheld rig, (a Koolertron) you can find it on ebay for  just £17, re-fitted with a Manfrotto base plate was just the job. Ob doc style/actuality is tricky to film on the C300, because the lack of a powered zoom, but I have used the C300 for lots of this kind of filming, and it has proved to be very versatile and nimble, and I can work quickly without missing anything, whist creating artistic images. David Haye and Seanne Walsh were amazingly funny together and had a real on, and off screen chemistry. Tune into Dave in the spring to watch and find out what happens, its a crazy road trip!

Pioneer Productions Recon

DoP filming for Pioneer Productions in Chislehurst Caves (didn’t know they existed) with talented director Gareth Sacala. In pitch black caves filming reconstruction for a programme about Brunnel. Shooting with a Panasonic HPX 3700 P2 Varicam. In the caves there was no power so I used 2 of my battery lights and litepanel Sola, and my bi-coloured litepanel.

V Festival 2013

I’m back from filming at V Festival 2013, filming with Jesse J, The Saturdays, Sea Sick Steve and many more. Using 2x Canon C300 cameras, and a large 2.5kw HMI to provide sunshine for the set, great fun, great team, and we got to see Beyonce, she was rather good.

“Thank you Mark and Paul for capturing the incredible vibes of V Festival, visually and acoustically, and for following me from location to location, running through crowds, into the fields, on top of the bus and back down, all at the spur of the moment. Amazing!”
